DAHM-INation!!!
Twenty-four teams made it to State and then another 30 top individuals in the state. Of the 12 sectionals, Brett Dahm's 1,344 was the 4th best overall, so to win State, Brett knew he had to have his best... and he did.

FRIDAY ROUND 1
Brett started with a bang in game #1, throwing 8 strikes and a 235. Obviously he has been there before, this being his 3rd time at State. Game #2 he had seven strikes, but three bad breaks led to a 184, and in game #3 his luck was worse as three opens led to a 165. If he doesn't come back in Round 2, he may miss the cut and be going home early.

FRIDAY ROUND 2
With his tournament life at stake, Brett dug in and bowled a respectable 204, a clean game with 4 strikes. He needed better to stick around and that is when I saw a true champion in action. Lovie Smith loves Rex Grossman because when you back him into a corner, he doesn't hide--he comes out swinging. Brett rolled his first three shots and had two spares and an open. Then in the 4th and 5th frames he conveted two 3-10 baby splits. After a change of bowling balls, he rattled off 7 strikes to end game #2 with a 233. Game #3 was even better as he fired 9 strikes and picked up the dreaded 4-9 split in the 9th. Game #3 score: 257.  With those scores...back up the charts and a chance to bowl Saturday.

FRIDAY NIGHT
Coach Gale was just as clutch as Brett's 16 of 18 strikes in a row, in landing 5 tickets to the Detroit Red Wings vs. St. Louis Blues NHL game. We sat right on the glass and had a great night as the Blues won 2-1 in OT. Coach Gale was clutch!

SATURDAY ROUND 1
With half of the field already gone, Brett had six games to roll to do his fellow Dons proud... and he did. Game #1: 6 strikes and a tough break in the 10th with a missed 10-pin and a 189. Game #2 was respectable with a 201 and six more strikes, but all the other competitors were bowling well so game three had to be good... and it was.  Game #3: eight strikes helped Brett finish with a 239.

SATURDAY ROUND 2
Three clean games with scores of 195-215-192. Only 11 strikes in the last three games, but to throw three clean games after nine games was amazing to watch.

OVERALL
For the 2 days Brett averaged 209.1 which is 24th out of 150 of the best bowlers in Illinois. I am very proud to have worked with such a great competitor. He embodied the spirit of Notre Dame High School for Boys. And again props to Coach Gale for the sweet NHL seats and superb driving to and from State! Coach K #26

60 pins away from a Catholic League championship  :(

Sectionals - Sat., Jan. 20th. Watch Out Pins!

January 11, 2007
Congrats to the Varsity Bowlers on Winning the Chicago North Division of the Catholic League!

The Team shot a team high 1129 in game #1, and 2 other respectable games of 981 and 989 for a total series of 3,099. Peaking at the right time. ZOOM, they are starting to see it...  Don the Don, the "light'em up Blue Dolphin and the Zelenka family were all in attendance. Our best TEAM bowling is yet to come. #26

Christmas Break
3rd place in the Mather Tourney. Sad. I try to teach them to zoom. Step back relax, see the bigger picture, but if you were there, at the tourney, you would have been sad. We complained about the lane conditions, even though everyone else bowled on the same lanes. We reacted poorly to our first shots and it showed.  I bought Navy Blue ER wristbands but no one wears them, so I gave them new ones but they don't say thanks or really look into what they can do. I never understand why kids don't do what can help them. They fight it, without even asking... why? My wife wonders why I continue to do those things... she says it's just bowling, but she can't see it. In 2004, I guided a team to the state title. I journaled every moment. There were terrible moments during that season. I hurt, I doubted everything, but then it all came together... and I made it come together. And to do that again, feel that feeling again, it is a desire and I will get it again. Journal entry Jan. 1, 2007. #26

Cougar Invite
2nd Place of 22 teams for the Varsity. Next time we, the team, coaches, and fans must close the door. We had 4 of the top 15 bowlers in the tourney in overall pins: Jake Dalak, Brett Dahm, Billy Kerber and Rick DeArmond.
Week #3 Standings
The Varsity Pin-Dons won 25 points from Gordon Tech on Monday at Sy's Lanes. Coach Gale was quoted saying, "We are about to turn the corner, our guys are getting better and we are going to peak later in the year."

Coach K said, "The boys still don't see it. First they thought it was just a rooster, but it's not. Then they thought it was 2 kids looking at the rooster, but it's not. They just don't see it yet. It's early in the year, though. The BEST is yet to come."

Steve Earle said, "My Eliminate Reaction Wristband" wasn't working right. Every shot I took I reacted to and it made the next shots worse. If I keep reacting to my shots, my games will continue to get worse. I must make adjustments."

We will see if beating the old guys at practice on Tuesday 11/21, with our BIGGEST GAME this season, will carry over to our tourney in Rockford. 10 pins more by each bowler over 6 games =   Coach K #26

Harlem Huskie Invite
868 in game one was a killer. When you shoot one game and are down 318 pins, tourney hopes are over.  After that game we never shot under 932 over the next 5 games.     Jake Dalak         1,203 (6 gms), 200.5 average.
Rick DeArmond      1,252 (6 gms), 208.7 average.
Brett Dahm           952 (5 gms), 190.4 average.
Kyle Gdowski         380 (2 gms), 190   average.
Billy Kerber         774 (4 gms), 193.5 average.
Zach Timm            643 (4 gms), 160.8 average.
Jon Katz             344 (2 gms), 172   average.

We can't see the big picture...
Therefore, Pressure mounts and concentration is lost, ZOOM teaches us to step back and take in the big picture. If you get too close, or too involved you can't see the big picture. Step back... see the big picture. Bowling is hard enough as it is. You must find your own ways to take the pressure off. The ERW wristbands. Stare at that wristband... see the eagle at Forest Hills lanes. We can't see it...yet.

Now that the first 3 meets and first tournament is over, it's time to get to business. #26
