Giving to ND
Scholarships
The facts
For more than 50 years, Notre Dame has partnered with families and educated young men whether or not they could afford tuition. If students came to NDHS seeking a Catholic, Holy Cross education, they received one.
The cost of educating each student in 2006-2007 is $10,200, while the tuition and fees charged total $8,350. The difference between tuition and the cost of education per student is a tuition grant awarded to each student. Funding for this tuition grant is covered through fundraising efforts such as the Annual Fund, Sponsorships, the Spirit of Notre Dame Dinner Auction and Scholarships. In addition, many families rely on financial aid from Notre Dame to meet the subsidized tuition payment. Last year Notre Dame disbursed over $485,000 in financial aid from its general operating budget to ensure a Notre Dame education remains accessible to all who desire it. Currently, Notre Dame raises $100,000 in scholarships to offset this amount.
Approximately, 25% of Notre Dame families received financial assistance during the 2005-06 academic year. Of those, 40% were from single-family homes and 40% were of Hispanic or African-American descent.
Three Ways to Help
· Contribute to the Notre Dame Scholarship Fund – Any gift designated to Notre Dame’s general scholarship arm supports our families in greatest financial need. Through this, NDHS seeks to begin a scholarship endowment for the first time in its history.
· Create an Annual Named Scholarship – Annual gifts to Notre Dame “In Honor of” an individual or in memory of an individual can be established. A minimum of $1,000 per year is needed to establish an Annual Scholarship. Funds will support the tuition of a named recipient, who meets criteria established by the donor, on an annual basis.
· Establish an Endowed Named Scholarship – Endowed scholarship gifts to Notre Dame “In Honor of” or in memory of an individual are invested and exist in perpetuity. A minimum of $25,000 is needed to establish a named endowed scholarship. The yearly investment earnings ensure a permanent legacy for the person or family the scholarship commemorates and annually support the tuition of a named recipient who meets criteria established by the donor.
